How Charlie Came Into Our Lives

Charlie’s story started with a kind connection: we were able to welcome him into our home by helping a friend of a friend. From the moment he arrived, his boundless energy and joyful spirit brightened the farm—and our hearts.

Charlie’s Favorite Things

If you visit the farm, you might catch Charlie dashing across the fields at full speed, his nose to the ground, chasing after anything that moves. Whether it’s a fleeting butterfly or the occasional deer, Charlie is always on the move, full of curiosity and playful energy. Watching him run with such freedom and joy reminds us every day to appreciate the simple pleasures in life.

A Best Friend for Sophie

Charlie hasn’t just brought fun and excitement to the farm; he’s also been a wonderful companion for our white shepherd, Sophie. Since we lost our beloved dog Henny, who was with us for 13 wonderful years until September 2022, Sophie had been on her own. Charlie’s arrival has helped fill that space with friendship, comfort, and plenty of playtime.

Together, Charlie and Sophie explore the farm, share quiet moments, and keep each other company through every season. Their friendship is a beautiful reminder of the healing power of connection and companionship.

Tips for Caring for Active Dogs on the Farm

If you have energetic dogs like Charlie and Sophie, here are a few tips that help keep them happy, healthy, and safe while living their best farm life:

  • Regular Exercise: Make sure they get plenty of daily exercise. Running freely in the fields is great, but also consider daily walks or play sessions to expend energy safely.

  • Safe Boundaries: Farms can have hazards like equipment, ponds, or busy roads. Use fencing or training to keep your dogs safe while exploring.

  • Hydration: Always provide fresh water, especially after lots of running and playing outdoors.

  • Pest Protection: Farms can mean ticks, fleas, and other pests. Regular vet checkups and preventive treatments are key.

  • Mental Stimulation: Active breeds love to work their minds. Puzzle toys, training sessions, and scent games help keep them engaged.

  • Companionship: Dogs are social animals. If you have one dog, consider giving them a buddy (like Sophie and Charlie!) for company and play.

  • Health Monitoring: Watch for signs of fatigue, injury, or illness, especially with outdoor dogs. Regular vet visits help keep them in tip-top shape.

Charlie reminds us every day that life on the farm is better with a furry friend by your side. We hope you enjoyed meeting him and Sophie!
